HiI actually started using this program about a year ago. I must admit it's a pretty good way to get started. One of the things I like about it, is that if you wish to learn a piece that isn't in their library, then you can either import the midi file or write the music directly into the software. Their software allows you to play single or both handed, marking you on note correction and showing you where you went wrong and what you did.

You can take it a step further by turning the metronome on and trying to play to tempo.I found this software very easy to use and beneficial.but of course you can't beat a real teacher. Here is a link for a full review of this software and other Piano tutorial software:MarkRe: Piano suite premier V2.604/11/09 07:11 AM. Ive been using this S/W for about a month or so and have found it very helpful to this beginner trying to learn how to read music. For me, it's a good initial step for the first few months to learn the basics and decide if I am committed enough to replace the Casio with a real piano and take weekly lessons. My version is 2.94, and checking for updates is part of the basic menu of the program. You can do hands separate and also with or without tempo so you can first just worry about reading the right notes ignoring note values. Then turn on tempo and set the rate slow to get the timing correct and then increase it to correct tempo when ready. There are two main areas: Piano Player where you can select a piece at your level to work on, and Theory which is a step by step tutorial on music theory. You basically work your way thru the theory part, but it's up to you to decide when to start working on pieces and which ones to work on.
There are some exercises sprinkled in with the theory, but the program does not direct you to attempt songs from the player, rather it's up to you. It's really a great program for beginner levels. The only minor beef I have is that fingering is either shown with every note or turned off entirely. There is not an option to show transitional fingering that would be part of most sheet music, so it's all or nothing./ScruffiesPS: I have found a better place for drills than those included in the software. Thanks Scruffies. Did you buy the keyboard package as well or just the software? What do you use for a midi interface? The price certainly seems right if it can help me get up to speed on the basics.
I ordered it last night along with a midi controller. Now to see if I can get it all to work. I bought a 10 year old Ensoniq zr-76 workstation and who knows. Will a board that old work well over the midi? For that matter does the midi port even work at all lol. I bought it from the pastor's wife and I don't even know if she ever hooked it up over the midi.
I bought it to just use as a keyboard, never even thought about software.I know absolutely nothing about midi, synths, or this kind of software, though I am extremely computer literate. It should be an adventure if nothing else.Again, thanks for the info. John.I bought a new Casio Wk110 keyboard (about $200 at Target) which uses a standard USB connection for midi (that is, you buy a USB midi cable to run from the keyboard to the USB port on the computer, there is no special midi board).
I run Windows XP on a Dell, so no problems with the S/W.You might give their tech support a call (number on their website) to verify how you will connect it all up.There is a midi wizard that you use to setup the midi, assuming you can physically get it connected.Good Luck./Scruffies.
